Couch to 5K
I have been contemplating starting the Couch to 5 K (C25K) program for a while now, and I decided this week to suck it up and do it. Yes...I'm serious! I figure it can help me get to my goal quicker than just doing the 30 Day Shred or FIRM videos which have proven to help me loose inches but slowed down the weightloss.
Well I finally did it yesterday. Day 1 of Week 1....done!
Did it when I got home. Was planning to wait till later in the evening, but didn't want to risk it raining again. After the first interval of jogging thought the neighborhood could feel my heart beating so loud and fast! Then after the second 60 seconds, I thought I was going to trip from holding my side so tight...felt like a knife jabbing me when I breathed! That was an obvious sign I needed to do this and get into better cardiac condition. Finished the block, which is about 1 mile in roughly 18 minutes, close enough to the 20 minutes recommended I thought. I'm sure the more I do it, the quicker I will get and can just start going around again and walk whatever is left to turn around to get back to my house.
It was pretty humid and the sun was still hot, so by the time I got into the house I was pretty sweaty and a little lightheaded. Got inside txted my friend Lauren that my spleen was burning (LOL) and then drank a glass of water before jumping in the shower. Definitely felt some tingling in my legs for a few hours, little noodlish would be a good description. I can't imagine trying this when I was 40 lbs heavier...I doubt I would have lasted 10 minutes.
So if the hardest part is getting started, then it should only get better from here. I'm sure each day 1 of the next interval will make me feel the same way, but I'm gonna suck it up and just be proud that I am trying. One day at a time!
